Matt Millard travels to Illinois during the heat of the 2023 Rut! Check out our Social Media pages: Facebook - / bowhunting Instagram - / bowhuntordie #bowhuntordie
Talk about putting in the work! All I can say is wow! You work harder than anyone and deserve the success you have achieved. To camp out, scout, deal with all of the pitfalls of hunting public land and still get it done is incredible. Be very proud of yourself.
Great to see Matt get it done. I have enjoyed watching Matt's hunts for years even before he joined the Bow Hunt or Die crew. He is a great addition to the group and wow what a year the Bow Hunt or Die group has had! I enjoy watching the hunts from all the guys in the group and can't wait to see the next one.
@@drewcollins77yes sir. If you click on my name here and go back a little ways you’ll find some from 2019 and before. Then from 2020 to now, I have a handful here on BHOD
I’ve used both and killed a bunch with both. Believe it or not, the single pin is much easier for me. Less clutter in the sight picture and it’s much simpler for my brain in the heat of the moment. Just less confusion on which pin, etc. I shot a lot of target archery so a single pin is what I’m most comfortable with. I will say I do like the idea of the 2 vertical pins like the HHA Tetra Ryz. I’ll most likely test that next year
Had that same thing happen to me on my HHA tetra this year except I lost the wing screw completely! Must have vibrated loose on the 4wheeler! Luckily I didn’t get a shot and I noticed it was way off back in camp! HHA sent me a new one in just a few days and it’s back up and running again! Now I put some duct tape strips across it to keep it from backing out!👍🏻
Heads up. Good show - just put that bow in a bow case or have a zip tie around the string and cables when transporting in any vehicle or you’ll catch a ticket from a Gamewarden
Yep! It was pushing 80 degrees. Took up the track about an hour post shot and by the time I was doing the interview it was easily 2+ hours post shot so he had gotten stiff. He died in a deep, deep bottom a long ways from the truck. It took a long, long time to get him back to the truck and on ice.
@@austinchamberlin8106it’s not the same level of elevation change by no means but some of the places I’ve been in there rivals anything we have at home on how steep it is. That’s part of why I go back there a lot is the diversity of stuff you can hunt. That part of Illinois doesn’t have quite as many quality deer but it’s very diverse
I live on the edge of the park you stayed in and have been hunting here since the late 1990s. -- County born and bred. The influx of pressure I’ve seen is absolutely unreal. If you could, please refrain from showing identifying information in your vids. It’s hard enough to hunt as a local anymore, even more so now that we’re outnumbered by non-residents.
I have both bucks on camera you killed him not far off property line from my green field surprised you didn’t film my stand where you killed 7 point we came up the next week
I’d love to talk to you about it and see the pics of the one I killed. I wasn’t near that field or any stands but I did drag him out that direction I believe and ran into other hunters
If it’s not Florida hunters stirring up the woods around our lease, it’s the TN boys. Getting way too much pressure on the public land around that stretch of the Shawnee. Guess we will be setting up stands on top of em next season, Ty!
@@derekgardner3646it’s public land, if you want to hunt it, go ahead. It’s there for everyone to use. I never hunt on top of anyone though, I make it a point not to because that’s not how you kill good bucks. There ended up being a couple guys that had been hunting a few hundred yards from me that I didn’t know about until after though
Ha it's not mountains like where I'm actually from but for Illinois, that area is super hilly. Not the best choice of words but the locals in that area calling them mountain deer rubbed off on me! Haha
Lol. Arrow hit the offside leg after poking out the armpit. I've killed a bunch with both fixed and mechanical, even on Bowhunt or Die. For me, I'll take the bigger cutting diameter because of the shot on the second buck here. The mechanical helps more on those hits that are further back than you want

Does he still have old videos up anywhere?

Well done! Two nice bucks. Congratulations.
Great hunts. That first one is among the best I have seen on Bowhunt or Die.,
I don’t get why anyone would want one of those single pin sights. Mature deer are hard enough to kill without fartin around adjusting that thing.

@@MattMillardOutdoors congrats on another nice buck man. 👍🏻
Two nice bucks and great videoing. Congrats. and thanks
Congrats! Great video and awesome set up. Would love to see a deep dive of your set up
Agreed!
Are you wanting to see the saddle/hunting gear setup or the filming stuff?
I’ve been trying to film my hunts! Man is it hard I have a whole new respect! Great Hunt!
Great video! Enjoy watching your hunts. You keep it real.
Heck of a buck! Congrats!
Hey there, I retired last year from the USPS. Good job brother.
I hope to do that myself in another 26 years 😂
Wow man, congrats on that kill! And you put the work in for sure. Here in Louisiana I’m struggling, hoping one day I can get to that area.
Congrats man!!!
Bow hunt or die! Awesome show!
Good Public buck!
Congratulations, two great hunts.
Nice shot !
Funny how when we think we understand these animals and they prove us wrong all the time. He came when you thought he wouldnt.

That's a good idea! I'm definitely going to pay closer attention to it
Great hunt buddy.
Super Illinois buck. Congrats! Matt, did you notice alot of other hunters on the public ground you hunted in Illinois?
Yes. I’ve been going since 2019 and this was by far the worst I’ve seen pressure wise
Congratulations
ah....the troubles of being a southpaw. great hunts.
That second deer started walking as soon as you released the arrow…I think that’s what caused your first shot to hit back
You’re right, he definitely did but the arrow still impacted well right of the pin. Thankful that it worked out though
Heads up. Good show - just put that bow in a bow case or have a zip tie around the string and cables when transporting in any vehicle or you’ll catch a ticket from a Gamewarden
Yes sir! I’m aware of Illinois craziness. I’m glad not everywhere is like that
Great public land hunt! Any word on the age of the buck?
Not yet. I will try to update when I get it back. I was guessing 5 after looking at the teeth but could s the more
U close to where I hunt 💪🦌
Where is this campground? And I was there Nov 5th through the 12th and it was super hot when I was there
Did you go salmon fishing to i have that same rod sleeve
I just wish you wouldn’t show the name of the park your at.
Not intentional but it’s not like we are talking world class Whitetails on limited pieces of ground.

Not gonna lie it looks freaking hard to be left-handed
I dont even have to Know that was a mechanical!
Ezra Dam
Mountain buck?
Not East Tennessee mountains but by Illinois standards, its the mountains. Haha. Parts of southern Illinois is very hilly
Haha we call those hills. Yall got the real mountains.

I agree. Great hunt and great buck! Especially for public!
Flo Square
What kinda of camera setup is that?
Main camera is a Sony NX80, Sony shotgun mic, feelworld monitor and of course a Fourth Arrow camera arm
Thank you I just saw that monitor thing and liked the look of it. I will look into them. Thanks again
What release are you using?
Looks like a Stan
It’s a b3 Versa but Stan makes a great one as well!
Yup seen that later in the video. 👍🏻
@@MattMillardOutdoors thanks!
Pinch point?
Seems like it!
Yes sir
MESSING WITH THAT CAMERA COST YOU A GUT SHOT
